More than 600 inns participating in B&Bs for Vets in US and Canada
More than 400 innkeepers in the U.S. have joined more than 200 Canadian innkeepers to honor veterans on November 11th in the 4th Annual B&Bs for Vets celebration. Thousands of active and retired military will be treated to a complimentary overnight stay on Veteran’s Day followed by breakfast the next day from innkeepers coast to coast in the US and Canada. Many innkeepers have teamed up with local restaurants and businesses to offer everything from gifts to receptions and meals in an effort to thank veterans for their service on Veteran’s Day.
It’s not too late for veterans to reserve their rooms. New inns and B&Bs are joining in daily. Simply visit www.bndbsforvets.org for a complete list of participating inns and B&Bs in the U.S, searchable by state. In Canada, visit www.BBCanada.com or go directly to www.bbcanada.com/bb_vets.cfm. Additionally, BnBFinder.com offers a list of special year-round “Salute our Heroes” offers. Together, the B&B industry hopes to host thousands of veterans in the largest known veteran-thank you within the hospitality industry.
The Inn at Bowman’s Hill in New Hope, PA, for example, will be home base for one soldier coming home on leave from Afghanistan to surprise his wife on Veteran’s Day. A moving patriotic piano concert will follow by pianist Rio Clemente, who performed recently in the White House.

We got back last night from a wonderful time at the Henry Sawyer B+B in Cape May NJ. Before I go on we are very happy to say that Cape May missed extensive damage from Sandy so our plans did not need to change. The owners were so accomodating and took a house full of veterans for the evening. When we arrived we were happily greeted by Barbara who showed us around and invited us to help ourselves to goodies, coffee, tea or wine. Our room for the night was a lovely suite with a separateTV room with wicker furniture and a daybed and the bedroom had a very comfortable kingsize bed. with a bath. It was a lovely old Victorian house just like most of the home in Cape May with lost of character and antiques. We were 2 blocks from the shopping area and restaurants in town and the beach. In the morning we woke and took a walk along the beach on the promenade and returned for a great breakfast of assorted homemade breads, yogurt/granola/fruit parfait and egg cheese and mushroom souffle, juice and coffee. After that we set out to explore the town and took a trolley tour of the town and received a military discount for that. If you aren’t familiar with Cape May, NJ it is the oldest beach town in New Jersey with lots of big historic Victoria homes and inns and great restaurants. We shopped around and did a little Christmas shopping and picked up some souvenirs. Then we headed out towards Sunset beach and Cape May lighthouse. At Sunset beach the giftshop sells Cape May diamonds which everyone who goes there must check out. We had great weather for our little trip and the ride was pleasant as we took the backroads home from the beach. I want to thank the B+B owners and everyone who organizes this project for veterans. It was more than appreciated by me and my husband who is retired military with 21 years of service in Army. We will never forget our stay in Cape May.
We stayed at the Iron Horse B&B in South Cle Elum over Veteran’s Day weekend 2012. It was so wonderful that Mary and Doug, the owners, offered a free night’s stay to active and retired military members. We will definately go back!!
